About Kathy

Kathy DeVries is a natural science illustration artist who combines her love of fiber arts, painting, and drawing to design modern signature quilted art. Inspired by her Dutch horticulture heritage and historic natural science art, she explores the creatures, plants, and landscapes in her native Great Lakes region.

Kathy’s original modern paintings and patterns are incorporated into unique quilted fiber art pieces including wallhangings and home decor.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design Natural Science Illustration Program, Kathy also teaches nature journaling and art workshops.

Kathy works alongside her husband Richard Hawkins, a former ceramic artist, in their Milwaukee, Wisconsin studio. Her son Jason DeVries and son-in-law Jonas Nahm live in San Francisco, California.
